Back when Lorie Boychuk was giving away homemade chocolates to her family and friends there was no telling where her love of sweets might take her.
Inspired in part by the kindness of her neighbours, who would help her out while her husband was away on trips for his military career, Lorie began hand-making chocolates in her home kitchen and putting together gift baskets as thank-you gifts. Chocolate would take over her kitchen counters and stovetop at Christmastime – her confections quickly became a highly-anticipated holiday favourite amongst her nearest and dearest.
When she moved to Brighton, Lorie helped a friend with her Christmas store by making nut brittles and mulling spice mix – which sold out as quickly as she could produce them. When the calls continued to pour in after Christmas, Lorie’s friend encouraged her to go into business.
Mrs. B’s officially launched in 1999. To promote her product, she traveled around to craft sales and fairs giving away samples and test marketing different recipes. Pretty soon, the demand for a storefront location was growing by the day.
In 2004, Lorie opened her first small shop… which she quickly outgrew. By 2006 she had moved to her shop on Prince Edward Street in downtown Brighton, and in the winter of 2020, she moved into her beautiful new location at 8 Loyalist Drive, Unit 9. Lorie has continued to add new products, experimenting and testing along the way to continually improve her techniques and the quality of her confections. Her family and friends continue to support and inspire her never-ending quest for chocolate perfection – which she says is part of the reason the new Bellissima line was initially conceived and brought to fruition.
